Helmets’ Latest Trends:
Safety while riding is essential and becoming increasingly popular among cyclists; what better way than to protect yourself while sporting the latest helmet trends? Although many would not associate high fashion with bicycle helmets, wearing the most current helmet styles will help maintain that sporty chic allure all the while keeping you safe from any wipe-outs! These cool tips will keep you protected in the most efficient way without looking dated!

Vents are currently all the rage! Since 1997 the helmet industry has been offering larger and more air ventilation on their helmets, either for the style or for the airing that this provides to the cyclist. However keep in mind the more air vents on the helmet the less foam coverage on your head. Normal vents have proven satisfactory since the mid-1990`s. In order to provide adequate protection with less foam, manufacturers would have to use denser foam which makes for a harder substance in the case of impact. So if you are aiming for a lot of air vents, then make sure your helmet has the « in-mold » technology to increase safety.

A nice round smooth silhouette is becoming increasingly the sporty chic way to wear a helmet. Elongated helmets which are pointy at one end are more and more an outdated fashion. Also be sure to watch out for sharp edges on the surface of the helmet, as they are present in the exterior plastic of some models just for style. In the case of impact, these types of designs may contribute to jerking the cyclist’s neck or pushing the helmet to the side at the point of collision.

Popular among less expensive helmet models would be the “one size fits all” but this method is not safe for everybody! There is another solution available called the Fit System where an adjustable dial provides for a more snug fit protecting you from impact intensity, although there are still models using fitting pads as well.

Lastly, there’s nothing sporty chic about a dangling buckle or loose strap, so please keep those adjusted and ride safe! Dare to go the Distance!!

What to look for:

* Round smooth helmet shell

* Moderate ventilation

* Vents and ribs that are well-rounded

* Light-weight (result of less dense foam)
